Torture chair
(copy)

This chair with spikes was used in Nuremberg and Regensberg until 1809. It was employed during interrogations, particularly during witch trials. To obtain a confession from the presumed witch the torturer lit a fire beneath the chair, so that the iron spikes that covered the seat became red hot.

Provenance: Rome, former School for Prison Guards, 1934
